Niacin 100
Research on Niacin for strengthening and stabilising the psyche in the 1950s were the ultimate beginning of orthomolecular medicine. The results were later taken up by the two-time Nobel laureate Linus Pauling and resulted in the development of the contemporary orthomolecular medicine at the end of the 1960s.
Biochemical Function:
Niacin is involved in numerous oxidation and reduction processes and plays a central role in many processes in the metabolism of carbohydrates, lipids and amino acids. Thus Niacin is indispensable for the blood glucose regulation, the detoxification of xenobiotics (exogenous substances or substances alien to life) and for the antioxidative protective system. The organism generates the coenzymes NAD and NADH which are involved in at least 200 enzymatic reactions from Niacin. (NAD, Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide, and NADH, the reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, are the active forms of Vitamin B3.)
Natural Occurrence:
Vitamin B3 is primarily found in wholemeal products from which, however, it is poorly released. Meat and milk are further Niacin sources.
Scope of Application:
- Enhancement of the blood lipid levels (in case of an administration in high dosages)
- Support of the health of the arterial walls and the heart
- Strengthens the psyche and enhances the state of the mind
- Supports the energy generation; therefore also highly suitable for athletes
- For persons living on restricted diets or alimentation. In countries in which a one-sided corn consumption was common the typical Vitamin B3 hypovitaminosis «Pellagra» (= rough skin) could spread in former times. Corn contains little tryptophan and a lot of leucine (both essential amino acids) which caused a Vitamin B3 deficiency.
- The consumption of alcohol reduces the resorption of Niacin
- Sustains the health and flexibility of the joints
- Supports the regulation of the blood glucose levels
- Improvement in case of a photosensitivity of the skin
Recommended use:
1 capsule per day, more in situations of increased requirement.
Note:
In sensitive persons the consumption of Niacin may lead to a so-called flush occurring due to an expansion of the skin vessels and manifesting itself in reddened skin and a tingling sensation. If Niacin is taken on an empty stomach this phenomenon may amplify. It is therefore recommended to administer Niacin in gradually increasing doses and to take it with the meals. The Niacin flush is harmless and over after thirty minutes to an hour. By the way: it may well be perceived as rather stimulating.
Package content:
