Mannose is the most important parent substance of glycoprotein molecules. Fucose has a positive effect on brain development and long-term memory. Galactose improves communication between cells and increases calcium absorption. Glucose (dextrose, grape sugar) is the main energy source, increases memory capacity, improves communication between cells and stimulates calcium absorption. N-acetylglucosamine is needed for cartilage regeneration and improves learning. N-acetylneuraminic acid is particularly important for brain development and enhances its ability to learn; it is also vital for many body fluids and a potent immunomodulator. Xylose promotes a healthy intestinal flora, among other things.

Biochemical function:

Complex sugar components form, in combination with proteins (glycoproteins) and fats (glycolipids), the surface of each of the approximately 50 billion cells of the human organism. This sugar structure facilitates the vital information exchange on type and state of the cells. Several metabolic processes depend on this “linguistic code”. For the immune system, too, sugars serve as a source of information: Based on the accumulation of certain sugars on the cell surface, the immune system identifies and neutralises many pathogens.
  

Natural sources:

Only two of the eight essential sugars are abundant in our diet: glucose and galactose. The other six sugars can be synthesised from glucose by the human organism, but only with a considerable expenditure of time and energy. Breast milk contains five essential sugars.
